New trails at Gove Hill will expand local access to mountain biking, walking, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing and the great outdoors
LINCOLN, Vermont / September 28, 2026 — Lincoln Sports will open a new community trail system at Gove Hill on Saturday, October 17, 2026 (rain date October 18), expanding opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the outdoors close to home.
The project is revitalizing 55 acres of forest in the center of Lincoln, which was purchased in the 60’s by Lincoln Sports, Inc as a ski tow and trails. When complete, the system will include approximately 9,000 feet of trails for mountain biking, hiking, skiing and snowshoeing, as well as 1,200 feet of ADA-compliant trail with sections of raised wooden boardwalk. The project also includes new signage, an informational kiosk and improved gravel parking areas.
The Opening day celebration will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a welcome ceremony at the boardwalk trail entrance, followed by an inaugural ride and walk. The celebration, which is open to everyone, will then move to the Lincoln Sports ball field (the trail exit) for live music, a barbecue, a bake sale and giveaways.
“The new trails give people of different ages and abilities a place to get outside together, right here in Lincoln, adding to the sports field and newly refurbished tennis/pickleball courts,” says Christie Sumner of Lincoln Sports. Lincoln Sports’ mission is to foster continuing support for school and summer camp programming, community walks and rides, outdoor learning, nature programs and seasonal activities developed with residents, schools and local organizations. “We hope opening day is the beginning of a community that keeps returning—to ride, walk, learn and help shape what happens here next,” adds Christie.
The project has been made possible through the Vermont Outdoor Recreation Economic Collaborative Community Grant Program, administered by the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation; ARPA funding awarded by the Town of Lincoln; individual donors; and loan support from the Vermont Community Loan Fund. L&D Trailworks was selected to build the trails, with forest-management guidance and consulting provided by Long View Forest.
